My wife and I had wanted to add a VKR/dip station to the home gym for some time now, and after much research we selected the Yukon Fitness model. We were looking for fitness club quality at a good price, and this VKR fits the bill. It is made out of heavy gauge steel and when assembled, weighs a hefty, stable, not going anyplace anytime soon 120+ pounds. This is important to me, because I weigh 200 pounds, and I need a a machine that is not going to wobble or slide around when I mount it and use it.A quick survey of VKR stations on the internet shows a wide range of prices, with the Weider and Body-Flex versions coming in at around $150 and the Batca version at over $600, not including shipping.

With the lower priced versions, I suspect you will get what you pay for. They are obviously made of lighter gauge steel, with some only weighing on the order of 50 pounds, which made me fear they would feel rickety and unstable when I used them. Some of the reviewers of those VKRs have reported that they did not feel this was an issue (see the review for the $225 70-pound Body Solid version), but to me, if these were stable and acceptable, you would see more of these lighter, less expensive versions in fitness clubs. You don't. You see solid, commercial grade equipment like this Yukon in places like Gold's or Lifetime.Since I will truly use mine virtually every day, and my wife and son will use it frequently as well, I want equipment built to last. I saw no point in skimping to save a couple of hundred dollars on something we will use literally thousands of times over the next 10 to 20 years, so we opted for the higher quality equipment.

On the higher end of the spectrum is the Batca version. I own Batca equipment, and it is absolutely superb. Their X-2/X-3/X-4 line are hands down the best home gyms on the market and are worth every penny of extra money you might put down instead of getting cheaper/chintzier Tuff Stuff (or whatever) equipment. However, their VKR is made from the same gauge steel as the Yukon. The weight of the two versions is about the same. There are no moving parts, just metal and cushions. I saw no reason to shell out an extra $250 (after shipping), just because I like Ron Batca and his products, and so I chose the Yukon.

Upon delivery I found the VKR easy to assemble (it took me less than an hour). Mine actually came without directions but there were only four pieces of steel and three cushions, and it was pretty easy to figure out which bolts went where. Just remember to use washers (provided) on both sides of the frame wherever a bolt goes all the way through. A socket wrench comes in handy but you could easily assemble it with a a pair of adjustable wrenches if you had too.

A note on shipping costs. You can buy one of these directly from Yukon Fitness on their website, but after Yukon adds their shipping costs you only come out about $10 ahead over a simple one-click buy here on Amazon (you get "free" shipping at Amazon; i.e., the shipping cost is already built into the price). I opted for Amazon since I'm lazy.

All in all - an excellent piece of equipment and my wife and I are very happy with it.
